Vegas Golden Knights vs Edmonton Oilers: The defending champion is on the verge of making it to the playoffs

The Edmonton Oilers are hosting the Vegas Golden Knights at Rogers Place on Wednesday.

The Golden Knights can save the season

The Vegas Golden Knights are eighth in the Western Conference with a 42-27-8 record. The defending champions have lost the last two games, 7-4 to the Arizona Coyotes and 7-3 to the Vancouver Canucks. The Golden Knights are 12th in the league, allowing 2.96 goals per game, and are ranked one spot lower, scoring 3.21 goals per game. Jonathan Marhcessault is the best player on the team with 67 points, four more than Jack Eichel.

The Oilers are going for 100 in this game

The Edmonton Oilers are fifth in the Western Conference with a 47-24-5 record, which brings them 99 points. The Oilers have won the last two games, 6-2 against the Colorado Avalanche and 4-2 against the Calgary Flames. Edmonton is fourth in the NHL, scoring 3.58 goals per game, and is ranked ninth, allowing 2.86. Connor McDavid is having another impressive season, being first in the league with 99 assists and third with 130 total points.

Betting Trends

Vegas has played over the total goal line in 4 of their last 6 games overall and in 9 of their last 13 games on the road. The Oilers have gone over in 6 of their last 8 games played on Wednesday.

Prediction and Conclusion

Both Vegas and Edmonton are having a rollercoaster season. At one point, they were the best teams in the league, but that did not give them a smooth road to the playoffs. As a matter of fact, the Golden Knights have yet to clinch a playoff berth and will have to play on top of their game by the end of the regular season. The defending champions are in a solid situation, sitting in eighth place, and it will take a miracle for any other team to bring them under the playoff line. The Oilers had an epic 16-game winning streak earlier this season, and despite the recent fall, they still look like a real contender. This game may bring some playoff intensity, and as usual, there will be high-pace hockey. Given the offensive potential of both teams, we are going over 6.5 goals in total.
