Stefanos Tsitsipas Profile

Stefanos Tsitsipas is 12th in the ATP rankings, and his career high was third in the world. The two-time Monte Carlo winner is 16-6 for the season and 5-0 on clay surfaces.

He is coming off a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 semifinal win over Jannik Sinner handing the Italian only his second loss of the season. Previously in the tournament, Tsitsipas defeated Karen Khachanov, Alexander Zverev, Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Laslo Djere, all in straight sets.

Tsitsipas won back-to-back titles in Monte Carlo in 2021 and 2022, and the only title he has won since then is in Los Cabos last year.

He is coming off one of the biggest wins in his career defeating world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 in the semifinal. Previously in the tournament, Ruud defeated Ugo Humbert, Hubert Hurkacz and Alejandro Tabilo.

Ruud has made two finals so far in the season but has lost both in Acapulco to Alex de Minaur and in Los Cabos to Jordan Thompson.

This is his fifth appearance in Monte Carlo and his first final.

  • Ruud vs Tsitsipas 6-4, 7-6 (2024 ATP Los Cabos, semifinal)
  • Tsitsipas vs Ruud 6-2, 6-2 (2022 Abu Dhabi, exhibition)
  • Tsitsipas vs Ruud 6-1, 6-4 (2021 ATP Toronto, quarterfinal)
  • Ruud vs Tsitspas 7-6, 6-4 (2021 ATP Madrid, round of 16)
  • Tsitsipas vs Ruud 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 (2016 Futures, final)

Prediction and Conclusion

Both players beat the odds to make it to the final. Tsitsipas stunned the best player so far in 2024, Jannik Sinner, while Ruud defeated Novak Djokovic for the first time in their sixth match. This is the second time they will play against each other this season, after Ruud won in the semis in Los Cabos. That match was on a hard surface, and things look different on the clay court in Monte Carlo. Tsitsipas has won twice in Monte Carlo already, and he will use that experience to lift his third trophy here.
