Saturday night action brings 15 games to the NHL schedule. All but two teams will get on the ice ready for a fight and we have done a game breakdown of the top four games of the night.
The Philadelphia Flyers are having a promising season and how good they really are, we will see when they host the best team in the Eastern Conference, the Boston Bruins. The Edmonton Oilers have one of the longest winning streaks in NHL history and will have a chance to add to it when they host the Nashville Predators. The Tampa Bay Lightning are solid as usual and will host the New Jersey Devils tonight. The Vancouver Canucks are the leading team in the Western Conference and beating the Columbus Blue Jackets will leave them on top.
Let’s take a deeper look at the NHL betting trends for these four games.
Boston Bruins vs Philadelphia Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers are seventh in the Eastern Conference with a 25-18-6 record. They are having a difficult week, losing the last four games and coming off a 3-0 loss to the Detroit Red Wings. The Flyers are only 25th in the league, scoring 2.88 goals per game, and are ranked ninth in the league, allowing 2.86 goals per game. Travis Konecny is the leader in Philadelphia with 40 points so far in the season, two more than Joel Farabee.
The Boston Bruins are on top of the Eastern Conference with a 30-9-9 record. They have won six of the last seven games and are coming off a tough 3-2 overtime win over the worst team in the conference, the Ottawa Senators. The Bruins are sixth in the league, scoring 3.44 goals per game and fourth, allowing 2.60. David Pastrnak has had an impressive season, finishing third in the league with 69 points and tied for fourth place with 31 goals.
Boston Bruins vs Philadelphia Flyers: NHL betting trends
Boston is 5-0 SU in the last five games against Philadelphia. They are 6-1 SU in the last 7 games, 8-2 SU in the last 10 games against Eastern Conference opponents and 14-6 SU against teams from the Metropolitan Division. The Flyers are 1-4 SU in the last 5 games overall, 3-6 SU in the last 9 home games, and 1-6 SU in the last 7 games against teams from the Eastern Conference.
Prediction and Conclusion
The Flyers are still hanging on to a spot that leads in the playoffs, but losing the last four games has sounded the alarm. The Bruins also had a difficult week recently, but that is behind them, and Boston is still the best team in the conference. The Bruins have been dominating the Flyers recently, and knowing how big of a rivalry this is, the Bruins will not miss another opportunity to punch the Flyers and win on the road.
Nashville Predators vs Edmonton Oilers
The Nashville Predators are eighth in the Western Conference with a 26-21-1 record. After losing back-to-back games to Arizona and Florida, the Predators defeated the Minnesota Wild 3-2. Nashville is 18th in the league with 3.02 goals per game and is ranked 16th, allowing 3.08. Filip Forsberg leads the Predators with 50 points so far in the season, 223 of which are goals.
The Edmonton Oilers are the hottest team in the league at the moment, winning the last 15 games. However, they are still only sixth in the Western Conference with a 28-15-1 record. The Oilers are coming off a 3-0 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. Connor McDavid is the best player on the team with 63 points, tied for sixth place in the league.
Nashville Predators vs Edmonton Oilers: NHL betting trends
Edmonton is 15-0 SU in the last 15 games. They are 14-0 SU in the last 14 games against Western Conference opponents and 5-1 SU in the last 6 games against Nashville. The Predators are 1-4 SU in the last 5 games against teams from the Pacific Division.
Prediction and Conclusion
The Edmonton Oilers are on an epic run of 15 consecutive wins, only two away from tying the Pittsburgh Penguins for the longest winning streak in NHL history. Beating the Predators should not be a problem since they have done that in six of Nashville’s last seven visits to Edmonton. The Oilers have been so dominant lately and will take control of this game early on, which will bring them another comfortable win.
New Jersey Devils vs Tampa Bay Lightning
The New Jersey Devils are ninth in the Eastern Conference with a 24-19-3 record. They have a better road record than they have on home ice. The Devils have lost four of their last six games and are coming off a 3-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. They are seventh in the NHL with 3.43 goals per game and 28th with 3.50 goals per game. Jesper Bratt is the best player on the Devils team, with 49 points.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 26-18-5 record. They have won seven of the last eight games and are coming off a 6-3 win over the Arizona Coyotes. The Lightning are ninth in the league, scoring 3.43 goals per game, and 23rd, allowing 3.29. Nikita Kucherov is having a fantastic season. He is ranked second in the league with 83 goals and 51 assists, and third with 32 goals.
New Jersey Devils vs Tampa Bay Lightning: NHL betting trends
Four of the last five games between these two teams have gone over the total goal line. Five of the last six played in Tampa has gone over the total goal line. The Lightning have played over the total goal line in 4 of their last 6 games against Eastern Conference opponents.
Prediction and Conclusion
The Lightning are playing their best hockey of the season, and when they are at that level, no team can win easily in Florida. The Devils are having their ups and downs as usual, but they have stunned many solid teams on the road so far in the season. New Jersey is among the best-scoring teams in the NHL and among the worst defensive teams at the same time. Tampa Bay will know how to take advantage of that, and this game will go over the 6.5-goal line.
Columbus Blue Jackets vs Vancouver Canucks
The Columbus Blue Jackets are having another disappointing season, being stuck in 15th place in the Eastern Conference with a 15-23-9 record, only one point ahead of the Ottawa Senators. The Blue Jackets have lost five of their last seven games but are coming off a 5-2 win over the Calgary Flames. They are 21st in the NHL, scoring 2.96 goals per game, and are ranked second-to-last, allowing 3.70 goals per game. Johnny Gaudreau is the leading scorer for the Blue Jackets with 29 points.
The Vancouver Canucks lead the Western Conference with a 32-11-5 record. Their three-game winning streak was snapped with a 4-3 overtime loss to the St. Louis Blues. The Canucks are second in the league with 3.77 goals per game and 2.52 allowed goals per game. JT Miller leads the Canucks with 64 points so far in the season.
Columbus Blue Jackets vs Vancouver Canucks: NHL betting trends
Vancouver is 8-2 SU in the last 10 games, 9-2 SU in the last 11 home games and 10 SU in the last 15 games against Columbus. They have gone over in 6 of the last 8 games against Eastern Conference opponents and in 13 of the last 16 games against Metropolitan Division teams. Columbus is 4-14 SU in the last 14 games overall and 4-9 SU in the last 13 games against teams from the Western Conference. They have played over the total goal line in 5 of their last 7 games played on Saturday.
Prediction and Conclusion
The Vancouver Canucks are having their best season in the past decade, and they look like a real contender. A similar improvement was expected of the Blue Jackets this season, but they are one of the biggest disappointments so far in the season. After this game, Vancouver is going on a five-game road trip, which will have a lot of impact on their seeding in the Western Conference. Knowing that, the Canucks will play their best hockey tonight to add another win and boost their confidence. They will have no hard time doing that against the Blue Jackets, and the Canucks will win with at least six total goals in the game.
