We have a short six-game NHL schedule for Sunday night and we have done a game breakdown of the top four games of the night.
The Philadelphia Flyers have turned things around compared to last season and will try to prove once again that they are one of the best teams in the East this season when they host the Ottawa Senators. The Minnesota Wild have seen their season collapsing and will need to step up their game when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes. The Detroit Red Wings are hoping to get back to the playoffs and will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers tonight. The Dallas Stars are continuing their road trip with a stop in New York to face the Islanders.
Let’s take a deeper look at the NHL betting trends for these four games.
The Philadelphia Flyers are fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 25-15-6 record. They are coming off a 7-4 home loss to the Colorado Avalanche that ended their five-game winning streak. The Flyers are 22nd in the league, scoring 2.93 goals per game, and are ranked much better defensively, allowing only 2.75 goals per game, which ranks them eighth in the league. Travis Konecny is the best player for Philly this season with 41 points, and he is tied for 14th place in the league with 22 goals.
The Ottawa Senators are having another disappointing season, being at the bottom of the conference with a 16-24-1 record, the fourth worst in the entire league. The Senators have lost seven of their last nine games and are coming off a 2-1 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets. Ottawa is fifth in the league with 502 penalty minutes. They are ranked 11th in the league with 3.34 goals per game, but defense is the problem, as they are 30th with 3.68. Tim Stutzle is the best player on the Senators with 41 points. He is tied for 17th place in the league with 33 assists.
Philadelphia is 5-1 SU in the last 6 games overall. Ottawa is 2-7 SU in their last 9 games overall, 0-5 SU in their last 5 road games and 0-8 SU in their last 8 games as underdog.
The Flyers are coming off a tough loss, allowing seven goals to the Avalanche, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are having a great season. That is not the case with the Senators, who are at the bottom of the East for a reason. The Flyers will go strong in this one, trying to get back on the winning track, and will capitalize on Ottawa’s poor defense, adding another win to their record.
The Carolina Hurricanes are fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 25-14-5 record. They are an excellent home team with a 13-4-4 record. The Hurricanes have won nine of their last 11 games and are coming off a 4-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings. Carolina is ranked third in the league in power play conversion with 27.7%. They are eighth in the league, scoring 3.43 goals per game, and 14th with 2.98. Sebastian Aho has another solid season, leading the Canes with 50 points.
The Minnesota Wild have had a disappointing season so far, sitting in 13th place in the Western Conference with a 19-21-5 record. They have won only three games in 2023 but are coming off a promising 6-4 win over the Florida Panthers on the road. Minnesota is 24th in the league, scoring 2.93 goals per game, and is ranked one spot lower, allowing 3.40 goals per game. Kirill Kaprizov is the best player on the Wild team, with 39 points.
These two teams have gone over the total goal line in 8 of their last 11 head-to-head games. Carolina has played over in 10 of their last 15 games overall and in 6 of their last 7 games against Western Conference opponents. Minnesota has gone over in 4 of their last 6 games overall, in 6 of their last 7 road games, and in 4 of their last 5 games against teams from the Eastern Conference.
The Minnesota Wild had a solid start to the season but have seen a major fall in the last month. They are among the bottom 10 teams in both scored and allowed goals per game and will have to step up their game in order to get back into the playoff run. Carolina, on the other hand, is one of the most consistent teams in the league and is very solid at home. They are favorites in this one, but the Wild are coming off a nice win in Florida. Given the fact that the Wild are under pressure to perform well, we will go with over 6.5 goals in this one.
The Detroit Red Wings are in eighth place in the Eastern Conference with a 23-17-5 record and are hoping to get back to the playoffs for the first time in six years. The Red Wings are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes that ended their three-game winning streak. Detroit is the fourth-best scoring team in the league with 3.51 goals per game and 23rd in the NHL, allowing 3.33 goals per game. Dylan Larkin and Alex DeBrincat lead the team with 40 points each.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 24-17-5 record. They are the hottest team in the conference at the moment, having won the last five games. The Lightning are coming off a 3-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres in the first game of a three-game road trip. Tampa Bay leads the league with 30.3% power play conversions. They are ranked 10th in the league, scoring 3.37 goals per game and 22nd, allowing 3.33. Nikita Kucherov is having a fantastic season, being second in the league with 47 assists and 75 points.
Tampa Bay has won 12 of the last 17 games when visiting the Red Wings. They are 5-0 SU in their last 5 games.
The Detroit Red Wings have seen a major improvement compared to last season and are in the middle of the standings in the East. As usual, the Lightning are in the bottom half and are playing their best hockey of the season, winning the last five games. Nikita Kucherov is absolutely amazing this season, creating the Lightning game, and he will make the difference in this game as well, keeping Tampa Bay’s winning streak alive.
The New York Islanders are 11th in the Eastern Conference with a 19-15-11 record. They are the team with the most tied regulation games in the entire league. The Islanders have lost the last four games and are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Islanders are in the league with 2.93 goals scored per game and are one spot lower, allowing 3.36. Matthew Barzal leads New York with 46 points, one more than Noah Dobson.
The Dallas Stars are fourth in the Western Conference with a 27-13-5 record. They have won three of the last four games and are coming off a 6-2 win over the New Jersey Devils. Dallas is the third-best scoring team in the league with 3.57 goals per game and is ranked 15th in the league, allowing 3.02 goals per game. Jason Robertson leads the Stars this season with 47 points.
These two teams have gone over the total goal line in 4 of the last 5 games against each other. Dallas has played over in 14 of their last 20 games overall while the Islanders in 7 of their last 8 home games and in 4 of their last 5 home games against the Stars.
The Islanders had a solid start to the season, but as the season progresses, they have fallen out of the top half of the conference. They are pretty solid at home and can beat any team in the league on a good night. The Stars are excellent on the offensive end and are winning games simply because they are able to score one goal more than their opponent. This game will have the same pace, with both teams focused on the offense. The total goal line is set at 6.5 for this game, and these two teams will go over, maybe even after two periods.
