Things are heating up in the NHL with 13 games scheduled for Thursday night. We have done a game breakdown of the top four games of the night.

The Edmonton Oilers are finally playing the way we all expected and will try to win another game when they visit Detroit. The Los Angeles Kings are in a major downfall, hoping to turn things around on their stop in Florida. The New York Rangers are having an impressive season so far and are going to St. Louis, were they haven’t seen much success lately. The Tampa Bay Lightning have many ups and downs this season, which makes the game against the New Jersey Devils tough to predict.

Let’s take a deeper look at the NHL betting trends for these four games.

Edmonton Oilers vs Detroit Red Wings

The Edmonton Oilers are the hottest team in the NHL at the moment, winning the last eight games. However, they are only 8th in the Western Conference with a 21-15-1 record but have played at least three games less than the other competitors who are in a better position. The Oilers are coming off a 2-1 win against the Chicago Blackhawks. They score 3.54 goals per game while allowing 3.08. Connor McDavid has another impressive season with 55 points so far, which ranks him sixth in the league. Leon Draisaitl is right behind him with 43 points, 19 of which are goals.

The Detroit Red Wings are 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 20-16-4 record. They are in solid shape, winning the last three games, and are going into this one after a 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks. Detroit scores 3.55 goals per game while allowing 3.4. Alex DeBrincat leads the team with 38 points, 17 of which are goals.

Edmonton Oilers vs Detroit Red Wings: NHL betting trends

The Oilers have played over the total goal line in 5 of their last 7 games against Atlantic Division opponents and in 8 of the last 12 games played in January. The Red Wings have gone over the goal line in 5 of their last 6 games overall, in 4 of their last 5 at home, and in 9 of the last 10 against Western Conference teams.

Prediction and Conclusion

Both teams are playing their best hockey of the season. Edmonton is absolutely fantastic and is yet to lose a game in 2024. Both teams are scoring at least 3.4 goals per game and given the fact that the total goal line is set at 6.5, that should not be a problem for them to surpass.

Los Angeles Kings vs Florida Panthers

The Los Angeles Kings are sixth in the Western Conference with a 20-10-7 record. They had an excellent start to the season, being on top of the conference at one point, but they are currently on a six-game losing streak. The Kings lost three straight games at home before going on a six-game road trip. They are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Los Angeles is the best defensive team in the league, allowing only 2.43 goals per game, while on the other end, they score 3.32. Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe both have 36 points this season, followed by Kevin Fiala, who has 34.

The Florida Panthers are third in the Eastern Conference with a 26-12-2 record. Unlike the Kings, they are playing their best hockey of the season, winning the last eight games. Florida is coming off a 5-1 road win against the St. Louis Blues. They score 3.2 goals per game while allowing 2.48. Sam Rinehart leads the Panthers with 51 points and is second in the league with 29 goals scored.

Los Angeles Kings vs Florida Panthers: NHL betting trends

Florida has played under the total goal line in 10 of the last 13 games overall, in 8 of the last 10 against Western Conference teams, and in the last 5 against teams from the Pacific Division. Los Angeles has played under in 13 of their last 19 games overall, in 7 of the last 8 on the road, and in 7 of the last 8 against teams from the Atlantic Division.

Prediction and Conclusion

The Florida Panthers have the momentum in this game, while the LA Kings will play with a chip on their shoulder. Being the winners of the last eight games puts the Panthers in the favorite position for this one, but the Kings can be dangerous. Despite losing the last six games, the Kings are still the best defensive team in the league, and there will be not much scoring tonight. Florida has also gone under the total goal line in 10 of the last 13 games, so the goal line at 6 will stay untouched tonight.

New York Rangers vs St. Louis Blues

The New York Rangers are second in the Eastern Conference with a 26-11-2 record, only two points behind the leading Boston Bruins. The Rangers are not playing their best hockey in the past week, as they have lost three of the last five games. They are coming off a 6-3 home loss to the Vancouver Canucks. The Rangers score 3.36 goals per game while allowing 2.82. Artemi Panarin is having another impressive season, tied for third place in the league with 57 points and fourth with 26 goals.

The St. Louis Blues are 11th in the Western Conference with a 20-18-1 record. They are quite solid on home ice, winning 12 of 19 games this season and 6 of their last 10 overall. The Blues won back-to-back games against Vancouver and Carolina but lost 5-1 to the Florida Panthers in the last one. The Blues score 2.77 goals per game while allowing 3.18. Robert Thomas leads the team in both goals and assists with 16 goals and 25 dimes.

New York Rangers vs St. Louis Blues: NHL betting trends

The Blues are 5-2 SU in the last 7 games against the Rangers, 5-2 SU in the last 7 at home, and 5-1 SU in the last 6 home games against the Rangers. New York is 2-4 SU in their last 6 games.

Prediction and Conclusion

The Rangers have fallen off the top of the Eastern Conference, losing the last two games, which makes them pretty dangerous going into this one. The Blues, on the other hand, are one of the teams that are underachieving so far in the first half of the season. For the second consecutive game, the Blues will face a tough team from the East, and despite losing the previous one to Florida, they have solid chances to win this one. The Blues have beaten the Rangers in 5 of the last 7 games and even though the odds are going the Rangers way, we are still choosing the Blues to win this one tonight.

New Jersey Devils vs Tampa Bay Lightning

The New Jersey Devils are 9th in the Eastern Conference with a 21-15-2 record. Interestingly, they have a much better record on the road, winning 12 of 18 games so far in the season. The Devils have won 5 of the last 7 games but are coming off a 6-4 loss to the Vancouver Canucks. New Jersey scores 3.55 goals per game and allows the exact same number. Jesper Bratt and Jack Hughes lead the Devils with 45 points each.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are 8th in the Eastern Conference with a 20-17-5 record. They have lost 4 of the last 7 games, but are going into this one after a 3-2 overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings. The Lightning are scoring 3.24 goals per game while allowing 3.45. Nikita Kucherov is having a fantastic season, leading the league with 67 points. He is third with 28 goals and tied for fourth place with 39 assists.

New Jersey Devils vs Tampa Bay Lightning: NHL betting trends

4 of the last 6 games between these two teams have gone over the total goal line, and 4 of the last 5 played in Tampa. The Devils have gone over in 5 of their last 6 games overall and in 4 of the last 5 on the road.

Prediction and Conclusion

Both teams are standing in the middle of the Eastern Conference despite the fact that the Devils have played four fewer games compared to the Lightning. New Jersey is coming off a game with 9 total goals, and they have gone over the total goal line in 5 of their last 6 games. The Lightning are both scoring and allowing over three goals per game, and they have played over the total goal line in 4 of the last 5 games against the Devils in Tampa. With the total goal line being set at 6.5, these two teams will have no trouble going over.
