Things are heating up in the NHL as we are going into the second month of the 2024-25 NHL regular season. As usual, there is a long schedule on Saturday, and we are going to see the betting trends for the four more interesting matchups.
The Calgary Flames are continuing their East Coast road trip with a top in Buffalo to face the Sabres, who are coming off a big win. The Winnipeg Jets are the best team in the entire league, but hosting the Dallas Stars will be a real test for them. The defending champions Florida Panthers are all set to host the worst team in the East, the Philadelphia Flyers. The Boston Bruins are catching up with the top of the conference and will have a real chance to get one step closer when they host the Ottawa Senators.
Let’s take a deeper look at the NHL betting trends for these four games.
Calgary Flames vs Buffalo Sabres
The Calgary Flames are seventh in the Western Conference with a 7-5-2 record, including 3-2-2 on the road. They have lost 6 of the last 8 games and are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the Boston Bruins. The Flames are tied for the 16th place in the league allowing 3.14 goals per game and are ranked 19th scoring 2.86. Rasmus Andersson leads the team with 11 points so far in the season.
The Buffalo Sabres are 11th in the Eastern Conference with a 6-7-1 record, including 4-4-0 at home. They have lost 3 of the last 5 games but are coming off a 6-1 win over the New York Rangers. The Sabres are tied for the 16th place in the league allowing 3.14 goals per game and are ranked 11th scoring 3.36. Tage Thompson leads the team with 16 points so far in the season.
Calgary Flames vs Buffalo Sabres: NHL betting trends
The Sabres are 0-6 SU in their last 6 home games against Calgary and 5-2 SU in their last 7 games as favorites. Buffalo has played over the total goal line in 4 of their last 6 games overall and 4 of their last 6 home games while they have played under in 4 of their last 6 games against teams from the Pacific Division. The Flames are 2-6 SU in their last 8 games overall and 4-2 SU in their last 6 games against teams from the Eastern Conference. Calgary has played under the total goal line in 5 of their last 6 games overall, 4 of their last 5 games on the road and 5 of their last 7 games played in November.
Prediction and Conclusion
The Calgary Flames are ending their three-game road trip with a stop in Buffalo after the last two games went to overtime. They defeated Montreal but lost to Boston after coming back from a two-goal deficit late in the game. The Sabres are coming off their biggest win of the season beating the Rangers on the road and will try to build on that. Both teams had a day off to recover and both have decent chance to win this one. Given their recent games, and head-to-head history, we go with over 5.5 goals in total.
Dallas Stars vs Winnipeg Jets
The Dallas Stars are sixth in the Western Conference with an 8-4-0 record, including 2-3-0 on the road. They are coming off a 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks which ended their two-game losing streak. The Stars are third in the league allowing 2.33 goals per game and are ranked 16th scoring 3.08 goals per game. Matt Duchene leads the team with 15 points so far in the season.
The Winnipeg Jets are on top of the Western Conference with a 13-1-0 record, including 7-1-0 at home. Their only loss came against the Toronto Maple Leafs and they won the following five games and are coming off a 1-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche. The Jets are on top of the league scoring 4.50 and allowing 2.14 goals per game. Kyle Connor leads the team with 19 points so far in the season.
Dallas Stars vs Winnipeg Jets: NHL betting trends
The Jets are 5-0 SU in their last 5 games overall, 7-1 SU in their last 8 home games and 10-4 SU in their last 14 home games against Dallas. Winnipeg has played under the total goal line in 4 of their last 5 games against Dallas, their last 5 games against teams from the Central Division and 7 of their last 9 games played in November, while they have gone over in 6 of their last 8 games overall. The Stars are 8-4 SU in their last 12 games overall, 7-3 SU in their last 10 games against the Jets, 2-5 SU in their last 7 games on the road and 4-10 SU in their last 14 visits to Winnipeg. Dallas has played under the total goal line in 4 of their last 5 games against teams from the Western Conference and 13 of their last 14 games played on Saturday.
Prediction and Conclusion
The Winnipeg Jets have the best start in franchise history and will go against the Dallas Stars, looking for their sixth straight win. The Jets are by far the best team in the league in all major statistical categories, but that does not guarantee them anything against the Stars. Dallas has been among the top defensive teams in the league just like the Jets and will not go down without a fight. Given that, this will be a tight game, so we go with under 5.5 goals in total.
Philadelphia Flyers vs Florida Panthers
The Philadelphia Flyers are 15th in the Eastern Conference with a 5-8-1 record, including 3-4-1 on the road. They are coming off a 2-1 shootout win over the Tampa Bay Lightning that ended their two-game losing streak. The Flyers are 27th in the league scoring 2.50 goals per game and one spot lower allowing 3.64. Travis Konecny leads the team with 15 points so far in the season.
The Florida Panthers are on top of the Eastern Conference with a 10-3-1 record, including 4-1-1 at home. They have won the last six games and are coming off a 6-2 win over the Nashville Predators. They are fifth in the league scoring 3.86 goals per game and 15th allowing 3.07. Sam Reinhart leads the team with 22 points so far in the season.
Philadelphia Flyers vs Florida Panthers: NHL betting trends
The Panthers are 6-0 SU in their last 6 games overall, 9-3 SU in their last 12 home games and 10-4 SU in their last 14 home games against the Flyers. Florida has played over the total goal line in 4 of their last 5 games overall and 5 of their last 6 games against teams from the Eastern Conference while they have stayed under in 9 of their last 12 games against teams from the Metropolitan Division. The Flyers are 4-9 SU in their last 13 games overall, 4-1 SU in their last 5 games against Florida, 4-13 SU in their last 17 games on the road and 4-10 SU in their last 14 games when visiting Florida. Philadelphia has played under the total goal line in 4 of their last 5 games overall, 7 of their last 10 games against teams from the Eastern Conference and 6 of their last 9 games against teams from the Atlantic Division.
Prediction and Conclusion
The Florida Panthers continued where they stopped last season and are on top of the Eastern Conference. Winning the last six games makes them the team with the longest active winning streak in the league. The Philadelphia Flyers are near the bottom of the standings in the East and will go nowhere following this game. The Panthers will absolutely dominate the ice and win this by covering the -1.5-goal spread.
Ottawa Senators vs Boston Bruins
The Ottawa Senators are 13th in the Eastern Conference with a 6-7-0 record, including 1-5-0 on the road. They have lost 3 of the last 4 games and are coming off a 4-2 loss to the New York Islanders. The Senators are tenth in the league scoring 3.46 goals per game and are ranked 23rd allowing 3.23. Tim Stutzle leads the team with 19 points so far in the season.
The Boston Bruins are 8th in the Eastern Conference with a 7-7-1 record, including 5-3-0 at home. They have won 3 of the last 4 games and are coming off a 4-3 overtime win over the Calgary Flames. The Bruins are 25th in the league scoring 2.53 goals per game and are one step higher allowing 3.27. David Pastrnak leads the team with 13 points so far this season.
Ottawa Senators vs Boston Bruins: NHL betting trends
The Bruins are 4-9 SU in their last 13 games against teams from the Eastern Conference and 3-7 SU in their last 10 games against teams from the Atlantic Division. Boston has played under the total goal line in 4 of their last 6 games overall, 5 of their last 6 games against Ottawa and 5 of their last 6 home games against them, while have gone over in 4 of their last 6 home games. The Senators are 2-5 SU in their last 7 games overall, 1-4 SU in their last 5 games against the Bruins, 1-5 SU in their last 6 games on the road and 1-5 SU in their last 6 games against teams from the Eastern Conference. Ottawa has played under the total goal line in 5 of their last 6 games when visiting Boston and 6 of their last 9 games against teams from the Atlantic Division.
Prediction and Conclusion
The Boston Bruins are in the middle of the standings in the East, way lower than any prediction. They have many ups and downs during the season, and it seems like they are finally picking up the pace. The Ottawa Senators had a promising start to the season but recently have fallen near the bottom of the conference. The Bruins have been pretty dominant in recent head-to-head games against the Senators and will continue that with a win covering the -1.5-goal spread.
