We are into the last three weeks of the NHL 2023-24 regular season and things are heating up. The last playoff spots are up for grabs and we are about to watch the best hockey of the season.
Tuesday night will bring us 12 games around the league, and we have our game breakdowns and NHL betting trends for four of them.
The Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers are tied with 97 points each and this game will have major impact on the final standings in the East. The Carolina Hurricanes have the same number of points and are favorites when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Arizona Coyotes have no chances to reach the postseason but this is a rare opportunity to get the win. The Dallas Stars are one of the hottest teams in the league at the moment and will have a chance to keep the winning streak alive when they visit the San Jose Sharks.
Let’s take a deeper look at the NHL betting trends for these four games.
Boston Bruins vs Florida Panthers
The Boston Bruins have fallen to fourth place in the Eastern Conference with a 41-16-15 record. After winning three straight games, Boston lost to the New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers. The Bruins are third in the league with 91.5 save percentage, seventh allowing 2.74 and tenth scoring 3.31 goals per game. David Pastrnak is fourth in the league with 99 points and 44 goals for the season.
The Florida Panthers are second in the Eastern Conference with a 46-20-5 record. After losing four consecutive games, the Panthers won 4-1 against the Philadelphia Flyers in the last game. They are the best defensive team in the league, allowing 2.41 goals per game, and are ranked second in the league with a 91.9 save percentage. San Reinhart is the best player on the team, with 83 points so far in the season.
Boston Bruins vs Florida Panthers: NHL betting trends
The Bruins have played under the total goal line in 5 of the last 7 games overall and in 4 of the last games played on Tuesday. The Panthers have played under the total goal line in 17 of the last 20 games against teams from the Atlantic Division.
Prediction and Conclusion
This game will have a playoff intensity since both teams are tied with 97 points for second place in the conference and only one point behind the leading New York Rangers. Both teams have been struggling lately and are not going into this one on top of their form. Boston won both of the previous games this season, and none of them saw more than four goals in regulation. Given the fact that both teams are among the best defensive teams in the league, this will be another low-scoring game, under six goals in total.
Carolina Hurricanes vs Pittsburgh Penguins
The Carolina Hurricanes are third in the Eastern Conference with a 45-20-7 record. They have won six of the last seven games and are coming off a 2-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Hurricanes are third in the league in converting on 26.5% of power play situations, fourth allowing 2.64 goals per game, and seventh scoring 3.40. Sebastian Aho is having another solid season, leading the Canes with 80 points.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are 13th in the Eastern Conference with a 30-30-10 record. They have lost four of the last five games and are coming off a 5-4 overtime loss to the Colorado Avalanche. The Penguins are tied for the top of the league with seven shootouts; they are 17th in allowing 3.01 and 22nd in scoring 2.90 goals per game. Sidney Crosby leads the team with 73 points so far this season.
Carolina Hurricanes vs Pittsburgh Penguins: NHL betting trends
The Hurricanes have won 6 of the last 7 games against the Penguins. Carolina is 6-1 SU in the last 7 games, 13-3 SU in the last 16 road games and 17-3 SU in the last 20 games against teams from the Eastern Conference. The Penguins are 2-8 SU in the last 10 games overall, 1-5 SU in the last 6 games against teams from the Eastern Conference and 2-5 SU in the last 7 games against teams from the Metropolitan Division.
Prediction and Conclusion
The Penguins are seeing their season fall apart after three consecutive losses. They are already 11 points behind the last team in the playoff zone, and they look quite desperate at this point. They were 4-0 up against the Avalanche on the road in the last game, but they still could not hang on and lost in overtime. The Hurricanes, on the other hand, are playing their best hockey of the season and are only one point shy of the top of the East. The Penguins will not quit, but they are just not good enough this season, and the Hurricanes will prove that once again with a comfortable win.
Columbus Blue Jackets vs Arizona Coyotes
The Columbus Blue Jackets are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a 23-36-12 record. They have lost seven of the last eight games and are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. The Blue Jackets are 25th in the league, scoring 2.86 goals per game, and are second to last, allowing 3.63. Johnny Gaudreau leads the team with two points so far in the season.
The Arizona Coyotes are 13th in the Western Conference with a -37-5 record. They have won three of the last five games but are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Dallas Stars. The Coyotes are 24th, scoring 2.89 goals per game, and are ranked two spots higher, allowing 3.30 goals per game. Clayton Keller leads the team with 62 points so far this season.
Columbus Blue Jackets vs Arizona Coyotes: NHL betting trends
Columbus has won 10 of the last 15 games against the Coyotes and 6-1 SU in the last 7 games played in Arizona. The Blue Jackets are 1-7 SU in the last 8 games overall and 0-5 SU in the last five games on the road. Arizona is 6-14 SU in the last 20 games overall and 5-0 SU in the last five games against teams from the Eastern Conference.
Prediction and Conclusion
The Blue Jackets have a season to forget, and they will most likely finish at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. The Coyotes are not much better, but they still have theoretical chances of reaching the playoffs. The Coyotes have had some good games this season, and they seem like a team that can be efficient on a given night. This is one of those games when the Coyotes are the favorites to win and will use the opportunity to add a win.
Dallas Stars vs San Jose Sharks
The Dallas Stars are third in the Western Conference with a 44-19-9 record. They have won the last four games and are coming off a 4-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes. The Stars are second in the league, scoring 3.63 goals per game, and are ranked 12th, allowing 2.97. Jason Robertson is the best player on the team, with 72 points so far in the season.
The San Jose Sharks are at the bottom of the Western Conference with the worst record in the league, 16-46-8. They have lost the last seven games and are coming off a 5-4 overtime loss to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Sharks are at the bottom of the league, allowing four goals per game and only one spot higher, scoring 2.20. Mikael Granlund leads the team with 46 points so far this season.
Dallas Stars vs San Jose Sharks: NHL betting trends
The Stars have won 5 of the last 7 games against the Sharks. Dallas is 9-2 SU in the last 11 games overall, 5-1 SU in the last six games on the road and 8-0 SU in the last 8 games against teams from the Western Conference. The Sharks are 0-7 SU in the last seven games overall, 1-9 SU in the last 10 home games and 0-10 SU in the last ten games against teams from the Central Division.
Prediction and Conclusion
The Dallas Stars are only one point shy of the top of the Western Conference and have won the last four games going into the second of their five-game road trip. The Sharks are having a terrible season, being at the bottom of the league, and will go nowhere by the end of the regular season. Dallas has won three of the last four games against San Jose and will add another one tonight in hope of getting the top seed in the West.
