Miomir Kecmanovic vs Jan-Lennard Struff: Australian Open – Second round
Miomir Kecmanovic will try to get his first win over Jan-Lennard Struff when the two meet in the second round of the Australian Open.
Miomir Kecmanovic Profile
Miomir Kecmanovic is 60th in the ATP rankings, which is much lower than his career-high 27th place. The Serbian is 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 over Yosuke Watanuki in the opening round of the tournament. The 24-year-old is now 3-2 in the season after reaching the second round in Adelaide and Hong Kong.
Kecmanovic’s best result in Melbourne is the Round of 16 in 2022, and last year he lost the opening match to Nicolas Jarry. He finished 2023 with a 28-31 record and 11-13 on hard surface.
Jan-Lennard Struff Profile
Jan-Lennard Struff is 25th in the ATP rankings, four spots lower than his career high. The German needed a five-set tiebreak to go past Rinky Hijikata, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-7, 7-6, in the first round. This was the first time in six years for Struff to get out of the first round at the Australian Open, and only the second time in 12 appearances to reach the second round.
Interestingly, Struff played a decisive tie-break in the first two matches of the season as well in Hong Kong, defeating Marin Cilic and losing against Sebastian Ofner.
Last year, Struff had a pretty good record, winning 45 of 69 matches and having a 21-9 record on hard surface.
Head-to-Head
- Struff vs Kecmanovic 6-4, 6-2 (2019 – First round in Basel)
- Struff vs Kecmanovic 6-2, 6-2 (2019 – Round of 16 in Stuttgart)
Prediction and Conclusion
If you want to bet on a tough match to predict, we’ve got you covered. Kecmanovic has never won a set against Struff in their previous two matches and is ranked 35 spots lower than the German, but still, given the odds, is the favorite to win this match. Kecmanovic is nine years younger than Struff and has made a significant improvement last year, even though his rankings do not say that. The Serbian is in much better shape, and we are going with him moving forward to the second round against the odds.
