Maple Leafs vs Ducks: A chance for Toronto to get into the top 5 in the East

The Toronto Maple Leafs are visiting the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night at Honda Center.

How good are the Maple Leafs this season?

The Toronto Maple Leafs are 6th in the Eastern Conference with an 18-10-7 record. They are 9-3-5 on the road and 4-4-2 in the last 10 games. After losing three straight games, the Maple Leafs stunned the Los Angeles Kings with a 3-0 win on the road. Toronto is sixth in the league, scoring 3.51 goals per game, and 22nd, allowing 3.34 goals per game. William Nylander is tied for fifth place in the league with 50 points so far in the season. Auston Matthews leads the NHL with 29 goals.

The Ducks are the worst home team in the NHL

The Anaheim Ducks are 14th in the Western Conference with a 13-23-0 record. They have the worst home record in the league, losing 14 of 20 games so far in the season. After winning back-to-back games in New Jersey and Detroit, the Ducks lost four of the last five games. They are coming off a 7-2 loss at home against the Edmonton Oilers. The Ducks are 29th in the league, scoring 2.56 goals per game, and 24th, allowing 3.39 goals per game. Frank Vatrano leads the team with 26 points so far this season.

Betting Trends

Toronto is 8-2 SU in the last 10 games against Anaheim. They are 6-1 SU in the last seven games against Western Conference opponents. The Ducks are only 4-16 SU in the last 20 games, 1-5 SU in the last six home games, and 2-7 SU in the last nine games against Eastern Conference opponents.

Player to watch

Defenseman Morgan Rielly is doing a great job for the Maple Leafs and has been pretty productive on the offensive end lately as well. In the Maple Leafs’ 6-5 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, Rielly had a season-high three assists.

Injury Reports

Ty Voit is out for the Maple Leafs and Troy Terry is listed as day-to-day for the Ducks.

Prediction and Conclusion

The Anaheim Ducks have another season to forget as they are near the bottom of the Western Conference. After winning only one game in the period from mid-November to mid-December, they managed to win two consecutive games but immediately got back to losing. They allowed seven goals in the last game against Edmonton, and with the Maple Leafs visiting next, things do not look promising for the Ducks. Toronto is on the verge of getting among the top five teams in the Eastern Conference, and given the fact that they have beaten the Ducks in eight of their last ten games, they will not miss this opportunity to jump higher in the standings.
