Lorenzo Musetti vs Taylor Fritz: Wimbledon – Quarterfinal
Both Lorenzo Musetti and Taylor Fritz will be looking for their first ever Grand Slam semifinal when they meet in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.
Lorenzo Musetti Profile
Lorenzo Musetti is 25th in the ATP rankings, ten spots lower than his career high. The Italian is 28-19 for the season and 11-2 on grass.
Musetti is coming off a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 win over Giovanni Mpetshi Pericard in the round of 16. Earlier in the tournament, he defeated Francisco Comesana, Luca Darderi, and Constantin Lestienne.
The week before Wimbledon, Musetti lost in the final at Queen’s Club to Tommy Paul, and the week before in the semifinal at Stuttgart to Matteo Berrettini.
Musetti also lost two finals at the Challenger Tour this season in Cagliari and Turin.
This is his first ever quarterfinal at any Grand Slam tournament.
Taylor Fritz Profile
Taylor Fritz is currently 12th in the ATP rankings, and not that long ago, he was No. 5 in the world. The American is 35-12 for the season with a 10-1 record on grass.
Fritz is coming off a 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-3 win over Alexander Zverev in the round of 16. Previously in the tournament, he defeated Alejandro Tabilo, Arthur Rinderknech and Christopher O’Connell.
Fritz won the title in Eastbourne last week, defeating Max Purcell in the final. That was his second title of the season after winning in Delray Beach. Fritz also made it to the final in Munich but lost to Jan-Lennard Struff.
This is his second quarterfinal at Wimbledon after he reached the same stage in 2022.

- Musetti vs Fritz 6-4, 6-4 (2024 ATP Monte Carlo, first round)
- Fritz vs Musetti 7-6, 6-3 (2022 Davis Cup)
- Fritz vs Musetti 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 (2022 Wimbledon, first round)
Prediction and Conclusion
This match will be the first semifinal appearance at a Grand Slam tournament for one of these players. Musetti has had an impressive grass season, and it is no wonder that he made it this far at Wimbledon. However, the fact is that the Italian was very lucky with the draw, playing four players with very limited success at the majors. Fritz, on the other hand, is coming off a comeback win over Alexander Zverev, which was his first Grand Slam win against a player from the top 5 in the rankings. Musetti defeated Fritz this year in Monte Carlo, but that tournament is played on clay. On grass, Fritz is a much better player, and the American will advance to the semis.
