Djere is coming off a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Karen Khachanov in the second round in Miami after defeating Coleman Wong in the opener. That was his first match after a month and a second-round loss to Dusan Lajovic in Rio de Janeiro.

This is his second appearance in this tournament in Morocco after making his debut in 2019. Fognini has won a total of nine ATP titles, with the last one coming in Monte Carlo in 2019.
