Jasmine Paolini vs Mirra Andreeva: Roland Garros – semifinal

Jasime Paolini and Mirra Andreeva beat the odds to make it to the Roland Garros semifinals.

Jasmine Paolini Profile

Jasmine Paolini is 15th in the WTA rankings, three spots lower than her career high. The Italian is 21-10 for the season and 9-3 on clay surfaces.

She is coming off a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 quarterfinal win over Elena Rybakina. Previously in the tournament, Paolini defeated Elina Avanesyan, Bianca Andreescu, Hailey Baptiste, and Daria Saville.

Earlier this season, the 28-year-old Paolini won the title in Dubai, which is the third in her career after winning in Portoroz and Bol in 2021.

Reaching the semifinals at the French Open is her best Grand Slam result in her career.

Mirra Andreeva Profile

Mirra Andreeva is 38th in the WTA rankings, five spots lower than her career high. The 17-year-old is 18-7 for the season and 11-3 on clay.

She is coming off a 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 win over Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals. Previously in the tournament, the Russian defeated Varvara Gracheva, Peyton Stearns, Viktoria Azarenka, and Emina Bektas.

This season, Andreeva reached the quarterfinals in Brisbane, Rouen, and Madrid. This is her best Grand Slam result in her young career after reaching the fourth rounds at the Australian Open this year and Wimbledon last year.

Head-to-Head Andreeva leads 1-0

  • Andreeva vs Paolini 7-6, 6-4 (2024 WTA Madrid, round of 16)

Prediction and Conclusion

Probably no one could have predicted that these two players would go this far at the French Open. However, they had a great tournament and fully deserved to play for a spot in the final. Paolini is 11 years older than Andreeva and has more experience overall, but that does not mean a lot since this is the first time she has gone this far at a Grand Slam. Andreeva came back from being a set down in the quarterfinal against world No. 2 Sabalenka, showing the tennis world that she is going to be one of the best players in the next decade. Andreeva already defeated Paolini on clay this year, and we are expecting the same to happen today in the semis.
