Jannik Sinner vs Daniil Medvedev: Wimbledon – Quarterfinal

The world No. 1 Jannik Sinner will take on Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.

Jannik Sinner Profile

Jannik Sinner took over first place in the ATP rankings nearly a month ago and is hoping to win his second major of the season. The Italian is 44-3 for the season and 9-0 on grass.

Sinner is coming off a 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 win over Ben Shelton in the round of 16. Previously in the tournament, he defeated Miomir Kecmanovic, Matteo Berrettini and Yannick Hanfmann.

At the French Open, Sinner reached the semifinals, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in five sets.

He won the first Grand Slam in his career at the Australian Open at the beginning of the year and also lifted the trophy in Rotterdam, Miami, and Halle.

This is his fifth appearance at Wimbledon, and last year he reached the semifinals, where he lost to Novak Djokovic.

Daniil Medvedev Profile

Former world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev is currently fifth in the ATP rankings. The Russian is 32-9 for the season and 5-1 on grass.

Medvedev is coming off an easy job in the round of 16 as Grigor Dimitrov was forced to retire in the opening set. Earlier in the tournament, Dimitrov defeated Jan-Lennard Struff, Alexander Muller and Aleksander Kovacevic.

Last week, Medvedev lost in the second week in Halle to Zhizheng Zhang.

Medvedev reached the final at the Australian Open this season but lost to Jannik Sinner despite being 2-0 up. He also lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells final.

Last year, Medvedev had his best result at Wimbledon, reaching the semifinals, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets.

Prediction and Conclusion

These two players know each other very well, and it is interesting to point out that Sinner won the last five head-to-head matches after Medvedev won the first six of those. They faced each other in the Australian Open final earlier this season, with Sinner coming back to win his first major after trailing 2-0. This will be an interesting match, with both players eyeing the championship. Given the odds, Sinner is a major favorite, but Medvedev will be competitive, so we are going with over 3.5 sets in this one.
