France vs Germany: Olympic Games – Semifinals

The host nation France will face off Germany in the semifinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics tournament at Accor Arena in Paris.

How good France is?

France came into the quarterfinal against Canada as a 7-point underdog but they beat the odds and went through with a 82-73 win. Guerschon Yabusele led the team with 22 points followed by Isaia Cordinier who finished with 20, while Victor Wembanyama recorded 7 points and 12 rebounds. In the group stage, France defeated Brazil and Japan before loising to Germany.

Germany is for real

Germany is the only team besides Team USA to make it to the semifinals undefeated. They are coming off a 76-63 quarterfinal win over Greece. Franz Wagner led the team with 18 points, followed by Dennis Schroder with 13 points and 8 assists. In the group stage, Germany defeated Japan, Brazil and France.

Head-to-head

These two teams have played 21 times before, with France winning 14 and Germany 7 of those. Germany won their group stage game in Paris, 85-71. These two split the two preparation games before the Olympics, as Germany won 70-65 after France’s 90-66 win.

Prediction and Conclusion

This is a historic opportunity for either team to make it to the Olympic finals. No one really took German basketball for real, especially after Dirk Nowitzki retired, but these guys won the FIBA World Cup last year. Dennis Schroder and the Wagner brothers are playing excellent in the national team jersey, and they proved that with four wins so far in the tournament. France was one of the teams they defeated in the group stage, and they did it in dominant fashion. Many would say that it is tough to beat a team twice in the same tournament, which may be even tougher knowing that France plays at home. They beat Canada against the odds, and the EuroLeague players were the ones that carried the team. Now it is turn to Wembanyama and Fouriner to shine, so we go with France to cover the +5-point spread.
