Dusan Lajovic vs Arthur Fils: ATP Barcelona – Quarterfinal

Arthur Fils is coming off one of the biggest wins in his career to face Dusan Lajovic in the quarterfinal of the ATP Barcelona.

Dusan Lajovic Profile

Dusan Lajovic is 59th in the ATP rankings, and his career high was No. 23 in the world. The Serbian is 10-9 for the season and 7-3 on clay courts.

Lajovic is coming off 7-6, 3-6, 6-1 win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the round of 16 match. Previously, he defeated Ugo Humbers two times by 6-4, and Diego Schwartzman by 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round in Barcelona.

Lajovic failed to qualify for the main draw in Monte Carlo, losing to Alexandre Muller. The week before, he lost to Gael Monfils in the opening round in Miami after failing to defeat Frances Tiafoe in the second round in Indian Wells.

Lajovic played quite well on clay on the South American tour, making it to the quarterfinals in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro.

This is Lajovic’s second appearance in Barcelona after 2018 when he lost in the second round.

Arthur Fils Profile

Arthur Fils is 36th in the ATP rankings, two spots lower than his career high. The 19-year-old is 13-10 for the season and 5-5 on clay courts.

He is coming off an impressive 7-5, 6-2 win over Alex de Minaur in the round of 16. Previously in the tournament, Fils defeated Daniel Altmeier 6-4, 1-6, 6-1.

Last week in Monte Carlo, Fils defeated Yannick Hanfmann 6-2, 6-0 in the opening round before losing 6-3, 7-5 to Lorenzo Musetti.

Fils’ best result this season was the semifinal in Auckland, where he lost to Alejandro Tabilo.

Head-to-Head – Tied 1-1

  • Lajovic vs Fils 6-3, 6-4 (2024 ATP Buenos Aires, first round)
  • Fils vs Lajovic 7-5, 7-5 (2023 ATP Hamburg, round of 16)

Prediction and Conclusion

There is a 14-year gap between these two players, which is one of the reasons why this match will be very interesting to watch. Dusan Lajovic has been on the tour for a while now, but he barely has a chance to reach the semifinals at this level. The Serbian will go against one of the best young players on the tour, Arthur Fils, who is coming off one of the biggest wins of his career. Fils is much faster on the court, and given the odds, he is the favorite to win tonight. Still, Lajovic is playing excellently this week; he is very solid from the baseline, and we are going with him winning at least one set.
