Danielle Collins vs Madison Keys: WTA Strasbourg – Final
Two Americans with plenty of experience will face each other in the final of the WTA Strasbourg.
Danielle Collins Profile
Danielle Collins is 12th in the WTA rankings, and her career high was No. 7 in the world. The American is 35-10 for the season and a fantastic 15-2 on clay.
She is coming off a 7-6, 6-2 semifinal win over Anhelina Kalinina. Earlier in the tournament, she defeated Clara Burel and Katerina Siniakova, both in straight sets.
Last week, Collins made it to the semifinals in Rome just to lose to world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka, 7-5, 6-2. Collins won back-to-back titles at the end of March and the beginning of April in Miami, winning all but two matches in straight sets. She also reached the quarterfinals in Doha and Austin.
This is my seventh appearance in Strasbourg, and I have made it past the quarterfinals for the first time.
Madison Keys Profile
Madison Keys is 16th in the WTA rankings, and her career high was No. 7 in the world. The American is 13-5 for the season and 10-3 on clay.
She coming off a 6-1, 6-3 semifinal win over Ludmila Samsonova. In the previous two matches in Strasbourg, Keys defeated Marga Linette and Xinju Wang in straight sets.
Last week, Keys lost to Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinal in Rome. Her best result of the season was the semifinal in Madrid, where she lost again to Swiatek.
This is her 12th appearance in Strasbourg and her first final in this French city.
Head-to-Head Tied 1-1
- Keys vs Collins 6-4, 6-1 (2020 WTA Brisbane, quarterfinal)
- Collins vs Keys 6-3, 7-6 (2018 Indian Wells, second round)
Prediction and Conclusion
Both players are very good this week in Strasbourg and have yet to lose a set; as a matter of fact, no player was close to winning one against them. Both Collins and Keys are veterans who know how to handle the pressure that comes with the finals. They are having one more match before going to Roland Garros, and there is no better confidence boost than lifting a trophy. It’s been a while since they played their last match, so this one is pretty tough to predict. Collins has been way more on the court this season than Keys, who is playing her sixth tournament in 2024. Collins has been very consistent this season and will win her sixth career title.
