Borna Coric vs Alexander Bublik: ATP Montpellier – Final

Borna Coric and Alexander Bublik will face each other in the ATP Montpellier final.

Borna Coric Profile

Borna Coric is having a fantastic week in Montpellier, reaching the final without dropping a single set. In the semifinals, world No. 7 Holger Rune retired in the second set after Coric led 6-3, 4-1. Previously, the Croats defeated Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-4, and Pedro Martinez 6-4, 6-0.

This is his best result at Montpellier in his fourth appearance after reaching the quarterfinals last season.

Coric is currently 37th in the ATP rankings, and his career high was No. 12. He is 8-3 for the season. Before Montpellier, he reached the final at the Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve challenger, where he lost to Leandro Riedi. He also failed in the opening round of the Australian Open, losing to Frances Tiafoe.

Coric has won a total of four ATP titles, the last one last year at the Hopman Cup.

Alexander Bublik Profile

Alexander Bublik came back from a set down in each of his previous three matches this week. In the semifinals, he defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Previously, he went past his fellow Kazak Alexander Shevchenko 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. In the opening round, Bublik defeated Denis Shapovalov 1-6, 7-6, and 6-3.

He has a chance to win his second title in Montpellier, after he did so in 2022. He has a total of three career titles, and he won two last year in Halle and Antwerp.

Bublik is 27th in the ATP rankings, two spots lower than his career-high. He is 6-2 for the season. Bublik lost the opening match at the Australian Open against Sumit Nagal in straight sets.

Head-to-Head – Bublik leads 1-0

  • Bublik vs Coric 6-3, 6-1 (2023 Halle, First round)

Prediction and Conclusion

Both players are coming off an excellent week, and they both deserve to play for the title. Coric had a much easier draw to get here, and he was dominant without losing a set. On the other side, Bublik came back from a set down in all three matches. Coric is definitely more prepared for this one, and knowing that Bublik has spent more time on the court and is often inconsistent during the matches, Coric will be able to pull this one out.
