Atlanta Falcons vs Seattle Seahawks: Can the Falcons add another win today?

The Atlanta Falcons are visiting the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field on Sunday.

How good are the Falcons?

It’s been a while since the Atlanta Falcons had a winning season and it looked like this would be another painful ride as they were 1-2 after three games. The Falcons are currently on a three-game winning streak and sit on top of the NFC South with a 4-2 record. After beating the New Orleans Saints by two points and needing an overtime to go past the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Falcons blew out the Carolina Panthers 38-20 in the last one. Kirk Cousins completed 19 of 30 passes for 225 yards with a three-yard touchdown pass to Drake London. Bijan Robinson ran for 95 yards and two touchdowns, while Tyler Allgeier added 105 rushing yards.

Can the Seahawks bounce back?

The Seattle Seahawks surprised many with a 3-0 start, but things have started to fall apart as they lost the next three games and now they are second in the NFC West with a 3-3 record.  The loss in Detroit was expected, but the breakdown at home to the Giants may be the turning point of their season. In the last game, the Seahawks were quite good, but the San Francisco 49ers were simply unstoppable. Geno Smith passed for 312 yards and a touchdown but was intercepted twice, and the Seahawks were just into too deep of a hole at halftime.

Prediction and Conclusion

One of the NFL’s nicest surprises this season is the Atlanta Falcons. They have now won three games in a row, which is their longest winning streak since they won four in a row in 2019. Since they defeated divisional opponents in their last three games, most notably the Carolina Panthers 38–20, the Falcons are undoubtedly headed in the right direction as they aim for their first winning season and postseason appearance since 2017. The acquisition of quarterback Kirk Cousins, who recently set the team’s single-game passing total with 509 yards and four touchdowns, is the main factor behind that success.

Raheem Morris, the team’s first-year head coach, and offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, who is also in his first year, are clearly performing admirably. The Falcons averaged 18.9 points per game the previous season before Robinson, who joined the team after two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, helped them reach an average of 24.8 points. The Seahawks are heading in a completely different direction than the Falcons. Seattle got off to a strong start, winning the first three games while giving up just 14.3 points per contest. However, they have since lost the next three games, giving up 36 points per contest. With six interceptions, second in the league, Geno Smith’s inconsistent play has been a problem for Seattle. The Seahawks, who rank 29th out of 32 teams, have also struggled with their running game. Rayshawn Jenkins, the Seahawks’ defensive back, is on injured reserve going into this game. Due to Troy Andersen and Lorenzo Carter missing practice this week, the Falcons may be shorthanded at linebacker on Sunday. Like safety Justin Simmons, Bijan Robinson, and Antonio Hamilton, Matthew Judon and Nate Landman are also suspect. The Falcons are unquestionably the favorites in this game given their recent performance. However, like Seattle’s struggle, it is inevitable that their successful run will come to an end. In order to at least cover the +3.5-point spread, we choose the Seahawks.
