Arthur Fils vs Tallon Griekspoor: Australian Open – Second round
One of the best young players on the tour, Arthur Fils, will take on Tallon Griekspoor in the second round of the Australian Open.
Arthur Fils Profile
Arthur Fils is enjoying the highest career ranking, being no. 34 in the world. The 19-year-old is coming off a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 win over Jiri Vesely in the opening round, which puts him 6-2 so far in the season. Earlier this year, Fils made it to the semis in Auckland, where he lost to Alejandro Tabilio, and to the quarterfinals in Hong Kong, where he lost to Andrey Rublev. Last year, Fils won his first ATP title in Lyon and finished the season with a 43-25 record.
Tallon Griekspoor Profile
Tallon Griekspoor is currently 31st in the rankings, ten spots lower than his career high. The Dutchman turned things around in the opening match, coming back from two sets down to win against Roman Safiulin. That was his first win of the season after losing both matches at the United Cup. This is his fourth appearance in Melbourne, and he reached the third round last year. Griekspoor won two titles in 2023 in Hertogenbosch and Pune and finished the season with a 39-24 record.
Head-to-Head
Fils won the only previous match against Griekspoor. In the first round of last year’s US Open, the Frenchman won 4-6, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.
Prediction and Conclusion
Fils is a rising star on the tour and will face a real challenge against Griekspoor, who won a couple of titles last year and had a decent run in Melbourne. Fils is much faster than the Dutchman and moves better in general, which will make the difference in this match. Grikspoor is much more experienced and can play solidly from the baseline, which will keep him in the match. It will definitely be a long one, but Fils will be the one to advance to the next round.
