Arthur Cazaux vs Felix Auger-Aliassime: ATP Montpellier – Second round
Arthur Cazaux and Felix Auger-Aliassime will face each other in the second round of ATP Montpellier indoor tournament.
Arthur Cazaux Profile
Arthur Cazaux is one of the rising stars on the ATP circuit. The 21-year-old Frenchman is ranked No. 83 in the world, which is the highest in his career. He is 9-1 for the season and 8-1 on hard surfaces. Cazaux is coming off a 6-1, 6-3 win in the opening round against Maximilian Marterer.
He was one of the breakout stars of the Australian Open as he reached the round of 16, when he was stopped by Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets. On his way to get there, Cazaux defeated Tallon Griekspoor, Holger Rune, and Laslo Djere.
In the opening round of the season, Cazaux won the challenger in Noumea, defeating Enzo Couacaud in the final.
Felix Auger-Aliassime Profile
Felix Auger-Aliassime has fallen to 30th place in the ATP rankings which is a major downfall considering that he was world No. 6 just a year ago. The Canadian had a couple of injuries last season and won only one title compared to four in 2022.
This season, Auger-Aliassime is 2-2. He reached the third round at the Australian Open defeating Dominic Thiem and Hugo Grenier, before losing to Daniil Medvedev. He opened the season with a loss to Daniel Altmeier in the opening round in Auckland.
This is his second appearance in Montpellier after reaching the round of 16 in 2020.
Head-to-Head
This will be the first match between these two players.
Prediction and Conclusion
Felix Auger-Aliassime is only two years older than Arthur Cazaux, but they have a completely different career path. The Canadian found himself at the top of world tennis at a very young age, has already been in the top 10, and has had a downfall season. Cazaux, on the other hand, is still on the rise, and with the talent he has, it is just a matter of time before he reaches the top 20 in the rankings. Auger-Aliassime has a lot to prove this season, and based on what we saw at the Australian Open, it seems like he is fully healthy and ready to go. Cazaux is highly motivated, but Auger-Aliassime is a class higher and will prove that in this match.
