Alexander Shevchenko vs Emil Ruusuvuori: ATP Geneva – Round of 16

Two players born in 2002 will go against each other in the round of 16 of ATP Geneva.

Alexander Shevchenko Profile

Alexander Shevchenko is 61st in the ATP rankings, and his career high is No. 45 in the world. The Kazak is 13-17 for the season and 4-7 on clay.

Shevchenko is coming off a 6-4, 7-6 win over Fabian Marozsan in the opening round in Geneva.

Last week, he lost the opener to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 in the Bordeaux Challenger.

Shevchenko’s best results this season were the quarterfinals in Montpellier and Rotterdam, and those are the only tournaments where he won more than one match this year.

This is his first appearance in Geneva.

Emil Ruusuvuori Profile

Emil Ruusuvuori is 66th in the rankings, while his career high was No. 37 in the world. The finisher is 13-11 for the season and 2-4 on clay.

Ruusuvuori is coming off a 6-3, 6-3 win in the opening round against Marcos Giron.

Last week, he defeated Thiago Seyboth Wild in the opening round in Turin but then lost to Francesco Passaro 7-5, 7-6.

Ruusuvuori made it to the final in Hong Kong in the first week of the season, where he lost to Andrey Rublev. He also reached the quarterfinals in Rotterdam and Doha.

This is his second appearance in Geneva after losing to Benoit Paire in the first round in 2022.

Head-to-Head

This will be the first match between Alexander Shevchenko and Emil Ruusuvuori.

Prediction and Conclusion

Both players were in much better form at the start of the season than they are now. That is especially the case with Ruusuvuori, who has lost six of the last seven matches. The Finish is not keen on playing on court, and the same can be said about Shevchenko. Ruusuvuori has a slight advantage as he already played a match in Geneva this week and was able to beat Marcos Giron in dominant fashion. However, Shevchenko is the better player at the moment and will find a way to make it to the next round.
